Tiramisu Rolled Cake,
is a velvety blend of espresso-soaked savoiardi piscot, layered with delicately sweetened beaten eggs, mascarpone cheese, topped with a cocoa powder. Its name, tirami sù, means “pick me up”, referring to the stimulating effects of the caffeine in coffee and chocolate.
Tiramisu Rolled Cake, although of relatively recent origin, is one of Italy’s most iconic sweets and invariably appears at the top of internet searches for the most popular Italian desserts. The word has made its way into at least 23 languages, and the dessert is served in restaurants around the world. Every year there is a Guinness World Record event for the largest tiramisu in the world. In the 1993 film Sleepless in Seattle, Tom Hanks famously refers to tiramisu as something mysterious that women seem to like! This reference has sparked a huge interest in the desert in the States. Tiramisu has become so popular that in 2017 it even got an international culinary holiday: World Tiramisu Day, celebrated on March 21, the first day of spring, as a tribute to the dessert’s restorative, renewing characteristics.
